Abstract

This paper presents results of a blast field test using a reinforced concrete slab close to a molded non-confined PBX (plastic-bonded explosive). The aim of this work was to verify reinforced concrete capacity to deal with blast effects of a military high explosive. Qualitative analysis was done after explosion to verify PBX capacity to develop damages to the structure. The explosive could develop severe damages to reinforced concrete structures.  Potential military targets are generally made from reinforced concrete. 4.0 kg of PBX with standoff distance of 1.5 meters from a reinforced concrete slab measuring 70 x 70 x 10 cm could collapse the structure during detonation.
