Abstract

For the successful launch of aerospace vehicles (sounding rockets and/or satellite), weather conditions are essential. Thus, it is important to analyze meteorology applications and identify the impacts of environmental conditions on the aerospace vehicle. In this context, this article's goals present an overview of the problem structuring and the decision-making process in rocket launch operations under weather uncertainty. Several stakeholders of the Brazilian Space Program were interviewed, and some articles in the literature were identified with multidisciplinary approaches; aggregating modern probabilistic weather forecasting techniques with the methods of structuring problems and decision analysis. The discussion indicates a paradigm shift in recent years, expanding private companies in the aerospace sector and searching for more customized procedures to meet new demands. As concluding remarks: establishing a customized weather forecast for each mission, mapping all the risks related to environmental conditions, and developing an innovative decision support system for launch operations.
